Well I was thinking more along the lines of "Does this old program still do what it said to do and/or is the website still up and viable?" type of thing...

Plus it'd be cool to gather a list of must have mobile apps to. Mobile net computing is starting to be very very big...*Strokes his new Motorola Hint Qa30*

CCCP. You need no other codec pack... ever.

Lets see.... If you don't have it Steam is a must now.
Instant Messenger/Social Manager: Digsby
Web Browser: CHROME
BitTorrent: uTorrent
Media Streaming: TVersity. Excellent tool, easy and will convert lots of formats to play on your 360.

Re: Essential FREE Applications - II

I wouldn't call steam essential. I mean it is a good program, but it isn't the end all of gaming. In fact if I had my druthers I'd rather have no frame work around my games. (ala gog.com.) But I'm not complaining, it is the best form of DRM out there at the moment.

Chrome is a good browser, still has some issues. It doesn't work so well on lower end PC's. (Unless they've updated it somewhat since they came out.) I find myself using firefox more still.

I guess my question would be..what is considered essential? It seems to be different for each person. For instance take a webbrowser: Despite our love for Chrome and FF, IE is still the dominate one...I know people that refuse to use anything other. (Please no "OMG they still USE IE!" cracks...)

Personal taste is really big on the net as Camon and I show many times, heh.

I guess we'd have to break it down to what you have to have. Maybe steam would be essential if you want to play MP valve games? Hmm..

I know I think to much

Re: Essential FREE Applications - II

I still use IE as my main browser. I just never got into using another browser and from a web designer point of view decided it was best to design for the browser that everyone basically has on their computer (not including mac of course).

I also use Azureus(now Vuze) as my main torrent program. Again, I use what I'm used to using.

I tried TVersity but found Media Player 11 to do pretty much everything I need it to for streaming media to my 360.

Re: Essential FREE Applications - II

I like azureus too for linux. And TVersity has more properties than just streaming to 360. I use it to stream videos from home to work
