EVE Online players?

Has anyone here played EVE Online? Some friends and I are doing the 14-day trial and it seems really cool but also complicated and very time-consuming. I'm pretty sure I won't be subscribing to it as I can't keep up with the games I already have on Xbox Live, but I'm curious what others' experiences are or were with EVE.

I was interested in Eve because of a couple friends here at work who play it. And while it sounded pretty open so that you can pretty much do whatever you want in the game, the epic scope and sheer massiveness of the game was kind of a turn off for me. If I were going into it with a good group of people who played regularly and could give me advice along the way, I might be more inclined to give it a go, but frankly, I already spend too much time in WoW and other games. And I've even cut back on about 80% of the WoW time I spend per day.

That said however, there's a guy here at work who simply can't get enough of Eve Online. Let me know what you think of it.

EVE online is a "What you make of it" MMO. It isn't really a guided tour around various places like WOW, but more a free for all sandbox MMO. If you go in to it with that mindset, it can be fun... But it is really challenging. EVE has one of the best economic simulators out there: You really can just play the game by being a trader of goods. The community is great (that i've ran in to at least) at helping newbies start... I had one guy just give me a couple of million ISK as start up money...when I played.

The game is channelling in a way most MMO's just aren't any more. That can be a good or a bad thing, depending on your taste.
